Bristol Croquet Club - Home Page

About the Club - Bristol Croquet Club celebrated its centenary in 1997. It has an excellent reputation as one of the leading clubs in the country and has a number of national and international players within its membership. It has grown from very small beginnings until it now has a membership (players and non-players) of over one hundred.

Facilities - The club has three courts normally laid out as 2 full-size and 2 half-size courts. The clubhouse has a clubroom, changing rooms, toilets and kitchen facilities with supplies of soft drinks, ices etc. There is limited parking space within the grounds and plenty of on-street parking nearby.

The Season - The playing season runs from April to October. Throughout the season members may book courts for play (these are organised as morning, afternoon and evening sessions - no 'green fees'). The Club takes part in a large number of South West Federation League matches and organises Club competitions for all its members. There are also open tournaments for CA members.

Coaching - Courses for Beginners (£35) are usually organised in May and June, and are followed by various events to welcome new members. Also early in the season coaching courses (for all handicap levels) are arranged for existing members.

Club Afternoons/ Evenings- These are organised regularly with games being organised for those members who arrive to play. These sessions are particularly useful for beginners or new members, enabling them to meet other members and obtain practice, help and advice on their game. Notice of these sessions are in the programme and are displayed on the Club notice board.

Equipment - Sets of balls and club mallets are kept in the clubhouse. Club mallets are available for use during the first year of membership and to visitors and prospective members.

What to Wear - Footwear with soft, flat soles MUST be worn at all times to prevent damage to the court. Members wear casual clothes for most occasions, but 'whites' are worn for tournaments and SWF matches. Play continues in the rain or if it is cold so warm protective clothing is necessary.

Other Activities - Throughout the year a number of social events are organised - a Quiz Night, a Golf Croquet afternoon, Summer Social evenings and a Skittles evening. During the winter when our three courts cannot be used, we have a Painting Group, Scrabble afternoons, Chicago (progressive) Bridge evenings and Rubber Bridge afternoons. There is also a Table Tennis table for use throughout the year.

Beginners' courses start in early May

From June onwards courts may be hired for social evenings.
